News Release: Christmas with the Kids Event - UPDATED

DATE: Tuesday, December 10, 2013
SUBJECT: Christmas With the Kids - UPDATE
RELEASE NUMBER: 2013-NR-086
CONTACT: Lt. Jim Martin
AUTHORITY: Sheriff Eric Williams

Later today, members of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office will participate in their annual “Christmas with the Kids” program. Because of the current road conditions in our area and with the closure of the local school system today, the buses used to transport the children are unavailable. Instead, members of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office will bring their Christmas Spirit to the kids at ARK Crisis Child Care Center.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office will still shop for the children, going off of their “wish lists” that had previously been prepared. This will include necessary clothing, footwear and, of course, their favorite toy requests and a gift for their families. The Sheriff’s Office will provide lunch for the children then deliver their gifts to them at the ARK Crisis Child Care Center located at Lincoln Ave. Evansville, IN 47713.

This will be the first time that weather has affected the Christmas with the Kids Event. “Only the location has changed,” said Lt. Jim Martin of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office, “We still want to spend quality time with these kids and to show them we are there for them. I think that this is the best situation for everyone, given the challenges we are faced with.” Members of the Sheriff’s Office look forward to this day just as much as the kids do.

The ARK Crisis Child Care Center provides care to approximately 200-250 children per month. ARK provides emergency crisis care to children six weeks old through six years of age whose families are experiencing temporary life altering challenges. Volunteers will be on hand at the ARK Crisis Child Care Center to wrap the Christmas gifts for the children and their families.

Members of the Sheriff’s Office will begin shopping at Wal-Mart Supercenter located at 401 N. Burkhardt Road at approximately 10:30 a.m. They hope to deliver their gift to the kids at the ARK Crisis Child Care Center by 12:00 p.m. After delivery, members of the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office will spend time getting to know the children they just shopped for. Members of the media may contact Lt. Jim Martin at (812) 499-3023 if they need further information.
