Chief Deputy Sheriff John H. Strange III

Chief Deputy John H. Strange III was born and raised in Evansville, Indiana where he attended Harrison High School. After high school, Chief Deputy Strange attended the University of Evansville and obtained a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Criminal Justice. He later attended Indiana State University and in 1990 he earned his Master’s Degree in Criminology. In 1982, Chief Deputy Strange served as an intern with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office and later became a Reserve Deputy in 1985. Chief Deputy Strange was hired as a Deputy in 1986. He has held the rank of Corporal, Sergeant, Lieutenant, Major and now serves as the Chief Deputy Sheriff. Chief Deputy Strange is a graduate of the FBI Academy in Quantico, Virginia. Chief Deputy Strange is a member and alumnus of Leadership Evansville. Chief Deputy Strange is a member of the Indiana State University Criminology and Criminal Justice Advisory Board, member of the ILEA (Indiana Law Enforcement Academy) Fitness Assessment Staff, member of the Indiana Sheriffs’ Association and National Sheriffs’ Association, member of the FBI National Academy Association, member of the ILEETA (International Law Enforcement Educators and Trainers Association). In addition, Chief Deputy Strange has been an active volunteer for the Santa Clothes Club and Annual Art for Life Fundraiser for HIV/AIDS Assistance. Chief Deputy Strange is a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Evansville.  Chief Deputy Strange is most proud of the quality of our personnel and the positive reputation the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office enjoys in our community.
