Applications for non-law enforcement (clerical) positions within the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office (VCSO) may be obtained Monday - Friday, excluding county holidays, between the hours of 8:00 AM and 4:00 PM.

Resumes may be included in your application but they are not accepted in lieu of a completed VCSO application for employment.

Clerical or non-law enforcement applications are accepted but that does not necessarily mean that there are current vacancies within these positions or that we are hiring for these position at this time.

To be considered for the position of confinement officers, you must first complete a written exam. Click here for more information. Applications for deputy sheriff (our law enforcement position) are accepted only at announced times, generally every two years, in order to establish a pool of eligible candidates for vacancies that may occur during the two-year period. The next deputy sheriff applicant testing process is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2012.

A complete list of employment requirements and disqualifiers, testing components and benefits will be made available at the beginning of each deputy applicant testing process.

The minimum age of all positions is 21. There is not a maximum age cut off for any of our positions.

All applicants must successfully complete several steps, including but not limited to: checks for any record of criminal history, background and reference checks, interviews, fingerprinting, lie-detector examination and drug screen.

Each application for employment, for all our positions, contains a job description, applicant certifications page and the requirements and disqualifiers for employment.

Certain positions may require additional testing upon a conditional offer of employment such as, a medical examination, psychological evaluation, extensive background checks and additional interviews.
