Applications for non-law enforcement positions within the Vanderburgh County Sheriff's Office (VCSO) may be obtained Monday-Friday, excluding county holidays, between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M.
 
Resumes may be included in your application but they are not accepted in lieu of a completed VCSO Application for Employment.
 
The following is a list of non-law enforcement positions within the sheriff’s office. This list does not necessary mean that there are current vacancies within these positions or that we are hiring for these positions at this time:
 
Clerical
Confinement Officer
Confinement Medical (nurse, medical assistant, EMT)
 
Applications for deputy sheriff (our law enforcement position) are accepted only at announced times, generally every two years, in order to establish a pool of eligible candidates for vacancies that may occur during the two-year period. The next, deputy sheriff applicant testing, process is scheduled to begin in April 2008.
 
A complete list of employment requirements and disqualifiers, testing components and benefits will be made available at the beginning of each deputy applicant testing process. 
 
The minimum age of all positions is 21. There is not a maximum age cutoff for any of our positions. 
 
All applicants must successfully complete several steps including but not limited to: checks for any record of criminal history, background and reference checks, interviews, fingerprinting, lie-detector examination and a drug screen.
 
Certain positions may require additional testing upon a conditional job offer such as, a medical examination and drug screen, psychological evaluation and additional interviews.
 
Each application for employment, for all of our positions, contains a job description, applicant certification page and the requirements and disqualifiers for employment.
 
All applicants are subject to a complete criminal record check, reference and background checks, interviewing, fingerprinting and lie-detector examination.
 
Certain positions may require additional testing upon a conditional offer of employment such as, a medical examination, psychological evaluation, extensive background checks and additional interviews.
 
Each application packet contains a complete job description along with the requirements and disqualifiers for employment.
