Dear Prospective Confinement Officer Applicant:

In an effort to expand our recruitment outreach and to add yet another element in our selection process to ensure that we continually and consistently hire and retain qualified, professionally-minded individuals to serve as confinement officers, the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office joined an expanding number of other Indiana sheriffs’ offices by contracting with EMPCO to provide a pre-employment examination for prospective jail/confinement officers.

Effective November 29, 2010, if you wish to be considered for future employment with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office (VCSO), as a confinement officer, you must first register to take the written exam. Please visit the following site and follow the directions: https://www.empco.net/ind Ivy Tech will serve as the test administration site.

Please note there will be a fee associated with taking this exam. Be sure to carefully read the instructions and the FAQ page posted on the above website.

Periodically, as the need arises, the Sheriff and his Executive Team will review the on-line pool of eligible candidates who have taken and passed the exam and who we have determined meet our employment requirements. Those applicants will then be invited to submit an employment application and undergo a subsequent interview. Applications will not be accepted from applicants who have not taken this exam.

Each sheriff’s office may have slightly different employment requirements and disqualifiers. Be sure to research this information before registering. For a complete list of our Requirements, Disqualifiers and Benefits click here.

If you have questions, please contact our Administration Division commander, Major John Strange, by voice at 421-6203 or by email at: jstrange@vanderburghsheriff.com

Thank you for your interest in career opportunities with the Vanderburgh County Sheriff’s Office.

Sincerely,

Eric R. Williams

Sheriff of Vanderburgh County
